Rare Vintage MARIO N. MADRID Sterling and Turquoise Belt Buckle 4 by 3

This is an extremely rare sterling silver and turquoise massive domed belt buckle signed MARIO MADRID (1961- 2021).. Madrid was a prize winning goldsmith and silversmith in addition to being a Wildland fire fighter, an 82nd Airborne Paratooper and a devoted family man who, sadly, passed away from COVID in 2021. It is difficult to find his work and this buckle is an absolute beauty. 2 7/8", is domed, stands almost 3/4" off the surface and weighs 65 grams.

Mario was known for his heavy stamp work, evident in this buckle. In the center is what appears to be a piece of bezel set Bisbee Turquoise known to be very hard, to take a good polish and one of the more expensive types of turquoise. As I handled and polished this buckle, it made me sad to think that his life had ended way too soon due to the virus. This is a rare and exceptional piece, one to be cherished and enjoyed.
