Richard Begay "Story Teller" Sterling Buckle. Sterling Silver and Turquoise Belt Buckle was made by the talented and famous Navajo artist Richard Begay using a variety of techniques and a high level of skill in both design and jewelry construction!

He is a very collected artist who has had very little of his work available on the market since his death in 2013. Born and raised on and near the Navajo Reservation, Begay and his wife Rita lived in Pinon and Flagstaff, Arizona. He borrowed smithing tools from his father-in-law to learn to be an artist and get his start. In 1989 he won First Place at the Indian Market in Santa Fe.

His jewelry has been exhibited at the Heard Museum, Wheelwright, The Smithsonian, and other. It is signed with the correct hallmark, "RB" on the reverse. It is also stamped "STERLING" and is guaranteed to be Sterling Silver. It has almost no tarnish on it.

The Buckle looks as it should for having been unused and is Like-New, aside from some tarnish. With "NOS", there no are issues with brakes, cracks, chips, noticeable scratches, etc. The Coral, Turquoise, Lapis, Sterling Silver, and Hardware are all fine. I believe it will please you..

The design theme in the silver work is exactly what you may hope for and features the expert stone Inlay Work that he is famous for. Turquoise and Coral were his favorites to work with. Like many of his contemporaries, Begay was quite particular about choosing the best material to work with. This Dine' couple at their Hogan with the mountains in the background is a real masterpiece of silversmithing. The Steppe Design on the horizon line is a theme you will find throughout some of his work and is said to inspired by Navajo Wedding Baskets...

Perfect for the theme of this buckle. Please use the magnification function and take a closer look at the photographs. It is a solid piece of Richard Begay artistry that you will enjoy owning in your collection!

As a sort of bonus, it is of heirloom. I hope you are pleased with what you see.. As the Navajo say, "Walk in Beauty". I thank You and look forward to sharing a good experience! "AMERICAN INDIAN JEWELRY I" - Gregory Schaaf - Page 78. "AMERICAN INDIAN JEWELRY II: M-Z" - Page 89.
